The BUES professional community blog is an example of the School Media Specialist as a Program Administrator. This blog was developed to allow staff members at BUES a place to collaborate and share professional learning experiences. When many teachers at BUES had difficulty using an instructional program I created a screencast and posted it on the blog. Many teachers viewed the screencast to assist them in using the instructional program. I hope that this blog continues to flourish.
Grant Application
Our media center is in need of books that are age appropriate, but also reading level appropriate for this group of students. I decided to apply for a grant opportunity through Dollar General. Dollar General Literacy Foundation Youth Literacy Grants provide funding to schools, public libraries, and nonprofit organizations to help students who are below grade level or experiencing difficulty reading. Grant funding is provided to assist in implementing new or expanding existing literacy programs, purchasing new technology or equipment to support literacy initiatives, or purchasing books, materials or software for literacy programs
The books currently provided for the specified group of students is uninteresting to them, and therefore is discouraging students from reading for enjoyment. Providing students with a variety of age appropriate books on their readability level will promote reading for fun.

Facility Plan
The Facilities Plan is an example of the School Library Media Specialist as a program administrator. The plan takes an in depth look at the current media center at BUES, and also shows how I would modify the current plans to meet the needs of all 21st century learners. I used surveys and research to design a media center that maximizes space and creates a safe and effective learning environment.

Media Center Evaluation
I evaluated the media center at BUES with the School Library Media Specialist using the Georgia DOE 2011 Library Media Program Self-Evaluation Rubric. After analyzing the rubric, I took the results and created a memo to my principal informing her on the evaluation of the current operation of our media center. Below is the memo that I created addressing the basic areas of our media center. I included an action plan for each area rated as basic, and also an action plan to move a category from proficient to exemplary.
